The start of our school year is very uncertain and although we hope to open with in person instruction it is looking more and more like we will have to be doing distance learning. We were fortunate to be able to provide chrome books for our students so students do have the ability to access digital resources.
The challenge now is finding digital resources that are engaging, student friendly, can be differentiated and are standards based. Last year our school provided each classroom with a subscription to Scholastic News. I found that not only did students enjoy reading these articles but they had many digital resources that matched the standards and helped students grow in their reading.
This year our district is facing severe budget cuts and will no longer be able to provide subscriptions to Scholastic News. I consider this an essential resource for students. It encourages them to read expository text. The articles are relevant, engaging, and encourage critical thinking and discussions. Finally the students and I have always used them as models of how to write both informational and persuasive writing. Please help me provide students with this important resource.
