My advisory students are focused high-achievers. The purpose of this project is to provide group ukulele lessons (if their work is done) that will let them decompress while still learning and strengthening academic skills. Most of the students have no musical training, and the uke lessons would be an opportunity for them to explore new cultures and fine arts, to learn in a novel cooperative setting, to reduce stress, and improve academic "meta-skills" such as reasoning, planning, and memory -- all of which have been linked to structured music instruction.
