My students love to read! They read on their own time and meet at lunch to have rich discussions about the stories. We have learned to share our ideas respectfully and have had to "agree to disagree" on many occasions. Their vocabulary and oral language skills have improved over the short few months we have been meeting.
Many of the titles relate to my students lives.
The first story we read was about a school bully who gets a "do-over" when he is in an accident that results in amnesia. Throughout the story, he realizes who he was before and decides to become a better person. This story really touched my students because they were all able to connect with the fact that everyone makes mistakes, but we have the opportunity to redeem ourselves. My students can't wait to meet and talk about the next book!
