Students in our program participate in a cooking lessons once a week. The recipes, steps, and examples are provided through our modified curriculum, Unique Learning System and News-2-You. The curriculum follows a monthly theme and the weekly newspapers each have a theme. We study and teach our standards and emphasize the theme all week and month. Each Friday, we celebrate our hard work with a cooking lesson.
The recipes correspond with these themes, which helps the students comprehend what we have learned through real-life cooking experiences. The students love to guess what we are going to make, read the steps, help to measure, pour, stir, make, plate, and sometimes decorate our snacks or desserts! Their also love to EAT their creations! We encourage our students to use their senses when trying new food. Since most of students are picky eaters and are very sensitive to sensory input, it is a perfect chance to smell, touch, and taste new things in a safe and supportive classroom.
