Our students need opportunities to see themselves as writers, publish their work, and show off what they know in all areas across the curriculum. My classroom currently must share a printer with 2 other 4th grade classrooms. Yes, 60 other students. Not only must we share the printer, but we must also either save the document to a drive or run across and down the hallway, with USB port in hand, to connect and locate the printer to even begin to admire our work. It is exhausting and disappointing, especially when students work hard and risk not being able to see a completed project.
Having our own printer in our classroom will allow us to quickly publish our students work and motivate students to complete their assignments. Students will have immediate access to their own printer and not anticipate another unfinished project. They can see themselves as young professionals, preparing documents to be published and shared with a public audience.
