I am so excited about my learners being able to access these materials!
In speech therapy sessions, I see kids individually and in small groups, each child working on diverse goals to best meet their needs. During this time, we engage with a variety of books and activities to promote language growth. Books and games are an incredible way to allow children to develop a variety of language skills, including answering questions, formulating sentences, following directions, and engaging socially with their peers. It is my desire that all my books be inclusive in order for my students to see themselves reflected in the pages.
I've included a variety of activities that are accessible to my students with multiple disabilities, many of whom communicate through augmentative, alternative means. I've included switch-activated toys for these students to target learning cause-and-effect, which is the basis of language learning. One of my most desired requests here is an iPad, as having this will allow my students with multiple disabilities to access a variety of appropriate activities and language applications.
Lastly, I've included materials to create a comfortable, welcoming environment for my students in my classroom. It's my goal to create a minimalist and warm environment for each student to feel peace and a readiness to learn.
