Hi my name is Ms. Garrett, I am a Kindergarten Teacher at Harrity Elementary in Philadelphia. The students I teach are predominantly African- American. Many of my students come from low-income homes and families. My classroom is a safe haven for many of my students. Students are awarded with many opportunities that they are simply not given at home, the most important one is having a safe space to learn and be themselves. My classroom is more than a classroom it is home to me and my students. My classroom promotes student independence, security, friendship, intelligence and discovery.
