I would love to start reading Wonder with my kids in January. This book will definitely set the tone for the rest of the year. R.J. Palacio's book touches on themes such as bullying, family, friendship, leadership, acceptance, love, and what it means to be "different". I anticipate great discussions revolving around the main character, Auggie, as he starts school for the first time. My students will learn not to judge someone based on his or her appearance, that being different is okay, and that we should never, ever use words to hurt others. The #1 message of the book that I anticipate my kids learning, is to always, always CHOOSE KIND!
