We have many conversations about beauty, race, identity and diversity in our classes. We discuss race as a construct (knowing that the consequences of race are real!), the historically shifting meaning of "white", and the definition of beauty. Students explore their own identities and discuss diversity within our classroom and broader community.
People colors give students a hands-on way to discuss skin color and identity.
These materials give us a starting place for discussions about the beauty of diversity. We will use these crayons to make self-portraits, create a classroom mural, and to re-envision Renaissance Art. It is my sincere hope that through such learning experiences students will embrace their own identities as well as those of their classmates. Working together, I believe we can create a world without racism. Thank you for considering making a donation to this project!
