I teach English Language Arts and Social studies. In social studies, we study ancient civilizations, we learn lessons from the past and discuss why they are relevant. Moreover, we learn other people, cultures and how to become better human beings. Using the words from National Geographic, we learn about "The Human Journey". For instance, after learning about the concept of Democracy developed in ancient Greece, the students organized the student council member elections, while the candidates prepared the videos needed to deliver their speeches.
Having 20 Chromebooks will allow my students to conduct research, develop collaboration, and communication skills.
It will also give them the opportunity to develop digital literacy skills such as typing, writing skills as well as media productions. Many of my students do not have access to computers at home, and in school we have only one computer lab and 4 Chromebook carts to be shared among more than 1,000 students. Based on what 6th graders are expected to know and be proficient at requires a daily access to the devices.
