My students are reading at varied levels, using iPad apps to learn skills that are curated specifically for each students' needs. It takes a lot of effort for these students to get settled and focused, especially with the added task of blocking out the sounds of others' devices. The noise-canceling headphones I've requested would allow each student to be working independently without the distractions of what's happening around them.
Learning how to read requires structure and focus but fostering the love for reading requires a supportive environment and space for discovery. By contributing to bean bag chairs to create a conducive space for reading, my students will have a place where they can slow down, get comfortable, and really explore all that a book has to offer.
Providing these materials will allow my students to go beyond the four walls of our classroom, not only through the pages of the books they'll read in their new bean bag chairs but also by creating a distraction free zone of learning with the use of their headphones.
