Every student in my Algebra II class is required to have a TI-84 graphing calculator. If they don't buy their own for $150, they must rent it from the school for $40 a year. Without this calculator, they cannot explore the necessary math concepts in class with me. Having a spare calculator in the room would engage the students that have forgotten theirs at home, or physically cannot afford to spend $40 on a rental.
I only get 50 minutes a day with my students, and I don't want cell phones to steal any of that valuable time. A phone charging station would motivate students to give up their phones for the class period and leave with their phone fully charged.
