Calling all organ donors: we need a kidney! A kidney table, that is. With a kidney table, I will be able to pull students for small group instruction. In a small group, the ratio between student and teacher is reduced. This will allow me to better identify individual student needs and differentiate instruction. The students I serve are English Language Learners. With a smaller instructional setting, I will be able to ask more questions to individual students which will help learners strengthen their oral language skills. A designated space for small-group instruction will allow students more time to interact with both myself and their peers.
My students’ gaps range from second to fourth grade. A kidney table will increase the amount of time allotted for small group instruction so that I can meet with targeted students to work on closing their achievement gaps. This, in turn, will improve their on-grade level math performance.
