I teach pre-K through 8th grade music, so my desks and tables are sized for the bigger kids. My pre-kindergarten, kindergarten, and first graders have always sat upon the floor while we do music. However, my classroom recently had the carpet removed due excessive age, wear and tear. The administration decided that it would be cleaner and more practical to replace the carpet with tile. This leaves my little ones much more uncomfortable in my room.
This project will provide my classes with a beautiful, musical rug for my little ones to sit on. The rug is covered with musical symbols that we study in class, so it will also be useful for my older students. I have also included a carpet sweeper in my project so that we also have a quick and easy way to clean up any dirt or salt that is tracked into the classroom.
I mentioned to my students that we might be getting a beautiful new rug for them to sit on and they can hardly wait!
