These ninth-grade English students from three classrooms will experience the magic of live theater when they travel from our school to Park Square Theater in downtown St. Paul to watch "Romeo and Juliet," by William Shakespeare. For many of the students, this will be their first live theater experience. Como Park is a language academy school that welcomes students from all over the world and prides itself on creating an inclusive environment that fosters community and understanding.
The performing arts awaken students to the power of story and personal expression that leads to a fully-realized identity.
Our students will study the language of Romeo and Juliet, performing scenes in the classroom, before watching professional actors portray the characters for them. This experience will transform their understanding of the language, showing how an old text can come alive on stage and in their imaginations.
