My goal for my students is to have plenty of choices when they enter the classroom. This project will provide flexible seating options for my students when they are working independently or in small groups. Students will be able to use the bean bag chairs to move around the classroom to be able to separate themselves and dig deeper within a text. I have also asked for a butcher paper roll to help my students create new projects and posters within their small reading groups. These materials will help them dive into their creativity.
Evidence has shown that through choice reading, it builds reading stamina and encourages non-readers to find that "one" book that speaks to them and helps change their mindset on their view of reading. This project will provide more choices and diversity for my students when they are given the opportunity to pick a new book to read. In my classroom we read every day. We start the morning off with 15 minutes of independent reading. With your help, my students will now have a more diverse library of books to choose from!
