My school's resources have always been somewhat limited. My classes are usually only able to read what's in the book room, which mostly has books that are over a hundred years old.
I recently came upon Trevor Noah's Born A Crime and would love to have my students read a book that is recent, relevant and revealing. It would be fun to read the text, but also highlight that with clips from The Daily Show or Mr. Noah's comedy act.
This would also help me to prepare the students for AP Lang, which is the class they will take the following year. This will allow us to dissect Mr. Noah's arguments throughout the text and analyze the effect of one's culture.
