I have a class of wiggly three-year-olds this year. Every morning, we do movement activities for about ten to fifteen minutes before sitting for five minutes at a time. Between our five minute seated sessions, we sing songs or do quick little dances to get the wiggles out again. Most of the time, we have to stop halfway through a story to stand up and stretch, then sit back down to finish the story. Children are able to sit better when their core is engaged or when they have something weighted in their laps. They are not as likely to touch other students or fidget with things they're not supposed to be touching. I am asking for weighted lap puppies and sensory seats so my students can hopefully sit for more than a few minutes at a time.
By donating to my project, you will be helping my students improve their focus for more than one or two minutes so they can enjoy reading stories and learning new things. I want my students to get the most out of being at school, and I believe being able to sit and focus will improve their love of school beginning at such an early age.
