Kindergarten is the home of many foundational skills that are built upon year by year. Reading is one of those skills. It takes many different engaging activities to help students thrive in reading and phonics. Each student is typically assigned to a reading group of about 5 children that provides them with engaging, hands on activities daily. This year, we are not allowed to get in close proximity of each other, therefore, we have groups from our seats. We also cannot share materials, which makes it difficult to engage the students. These alpha tiles will help bring some livelihood to my reading groups! Students will have all of their word work tools that they need for these groups at their fingertips! This item provides letter tiles for the whole alphabet that can be maneuvered around to make different words. It also provides a magnetic pencil that is attached to the board and lines to write on that will help train students to write neatly. This will bring the fun and engagement of reading groups to their seats! These items are also made of materials that will allow them to be sanitized daily and be useful for more years to come! I feel that I can meet the protocols that come with covid-19 and my expectations as a teacher with this tool! The way that these tile boards are put together will also decrease the risk of items being lost. All of the items are attached to the board. In the past, we have used dry erase boards, but the marker caps are often left off or not closed tightly, which causes us to have to replace them often. We've also used letter tiles but many times these are lost. I think these boards will be the perfect solution!
