Support Mrs. Asher's classroom with a gift that fosters learning.
My students come from a very diverse area and bring with them many different life experiences and interests. As we read day to day, it is important to me to have them see these differences reflected in the materials that I provide them.
These books will help me provide students with literature that clearly connects more to their lives and interests than what I currently have in my library. As a first year teacher, it is important to me to continue to build my classroom library so that my students know that I am listening to them and care about their interests. These books will not only provide students with connections to their literature, but they will allow me to hold conversations with my students on topics concerning gender, race, societal constructs, and their own personal interests.
Having texts like these will help me create a culture of reading in my classroom and will allow for students to feel more connected to their materials and our classroom. I hope that these will allow my students to find the beauty in reading and will provide them with materials that they may not have outside of school day to day.
