I will use the dry erase paint to resurface the tables. I do this every year and it's utilized as a tool. Most of my students have trouble with fine motor skills and writing. The dry erase tables are useful, because the students work out their problems on it, and fix their mistakes with minimal effort. Once they get the answer correct, they can then copy the correct process into their notebook. This serves many functions. Reinforces trial and error, problem-solving by not starting new. Resurfacing the desks serves other purposes as well. Students are unable to crumble the tables as they do with paper or get frustrated by erasing to hard and ripping their notebooks. I am able to pinpoint only areas of focus and need for each individual student.
The other component is problem-solving. I have found that students tend to give up and not persevere. Legos are a useful way to teach, problem-solve, trial and error, break and rebuild. The two Legos sets selected are strategically planned to be used with my younger crowds that have a lower skill set, and the second one is to be used with a more advanced older crowd of students that have better skill sets so they can be challenged. We live in a technologically advanced society and I'm trying to spark curiosity in children whose skill sets are underdeveloped and under-stimulated. The vast majority think they are unable to code, build and problem solve. By providing the opportunity to use these two sets and guidance, I inspire to stimulate their curiosity in robotics, science, and engineering. I want to promote our school electives that are under-funded and have a low count of students. I want to show them what is possible by
