All students benefit from math manipulatives. Learning is hard and I try to make sure that my students have the best tools in their tool-belts.
Learning shouldn't take place at a desk with a worksheet. Learning should be fun and engaging. We often use whiteboards to do work either as a whole group or for their individual work. My students often don't even realize their "learning" because my groups are structured in such a way that they become enjoyable. Math manipulatives help my students see things from a different perspective, things they might have missed if they couldn't see a concrete example. Math manipulatives allow my students to see a concrete example of what could have been an abstract concept.
