This project is to help create a library exclusive to my special education students. We already have a library in our school, but most of the books are inaccessible to my students. Many of our books are outdated, contain no images or illustrations, and are extremely cumbersome to read. We are requesting high-interest books that will motivate and empower my students to become more active readers.
My students have asked for books that are at a higher-reading level, but are also visually appealing and of high interest to the classroom. Students are extremely interested in Anime, Manga, comic books and graphic novels and have asked for more books of this type. The books will remain in the classroom to be utilized by all students during Sustained-Silent-Reading. We are working on improving our silent reading times in the classroom by increasing our reading time of 5-Minutes-Per-Period to 10-Minutes-Per-Period.
