Sometimes we get bored of the same old chair every day. Flexible seating gives students the chance to change what type of seat they are using so they're not sitting in the same chair every day. By bringing in new seats like bouncy balls, wobble stools, and resistance bands, the students can move their wiggly little bodies while focusing in the classroom!
There are a lot of benefits to having flexible seating in the classroom. By giving them the choice of where they sit, students feel empowered by having some degree of choice and control over their environment. Flexible seating allows them to wobble, rock, bounce, lean or stand, which increases oxygen flow to the brain, blood flow and core strength. It may be surprising, but having the students move actually increases their focus because many flexible seating options stimulate students’ sense of touch. This type of stimulation can help children focus and process information. It also requires introducing higher-order thinking skills, like problem-solving, and emotional skills, like conflict resolution, as students practice turn-taking and patience.
