Flexible seating allows the student to feel more comfortable in an environment that meets their needs. During their small group session, the student can find a space that works for them. Different chairs, tables, sitting or laying on the floor allows them to be comfortable. Making sure my students feel comfort is important to me because many of my students come from low income families. This need may not be met at home.
My students are becoming more engaged if they are allowed to pick their learning environment. I hope giving them additional options will allow their learning to increase and behaviors to decrease. Things I have noticed with some things I have changed: excited to get to their learning spot, once in their spot the student gets right to work, and are more engaged.
I have already experienced the difference in the changes I have made already. Having more options to meet the needs of the students will increase their learning.
