My students, community and I continue to navigate the challenge of teaching and learning in a pandemic. Every day I am reminded of the importance of community and positivity during this time.
No matter what the educational setting, children need high-quality books that showcase broad and authentic representation to engage in book clubs with their peers. The books in this project would allow students at home and in school to communicate digitally about a text, allowing for a shared experience. Additionally, these books would continue to reinforce the classroom culture that I hold in high importance: Books should be windows and mirrors so that many stories are represented AND children can become more empathetic.
