The products I have selected will help take our math classwork one step forward. Students have math workbooks where they complete classwork and homework assignments. I believe that isn't enough for students to expand their mind and learning. Therefore, I always take it outside the curriculum workbooks and bring in different project ideas that are connected with the current math unit/concept that we are working on. These ideas would require technology, which we do have in the classroom, BUT what we don't have is a printer that can allow us to print out all the great student work that will be taking place on their laptops.
Nowadays, students enjoy doing work on computers more than paper and pencil; and I would love to be able to print out that work to display for everyone to see! For our rates and proportion unit we will be shopping online using store advertisements to calculate different rates (i.e unit rates). Our next unit is about percents where students will be calculating word problems with markdowns, markups, tips and taxes. In this unit, students will be using the website Storyboard, to create their own comic strip based on the word problems they solve. I would love to print out these storyboards and display their work in the classroom.
