I would like to use the materials for a project at the end of our Pythagorean Theorem Unit. I want to give my students the opportunity to use the Engineering Design Process to design and build a three story skyscraper that will withstand an earthquake. They will implement their learning about right triangles, right angles, and the Pythagorean Theorem. In this project my students will experience first hand the significant real-world application right angles have in architecture to create buildings and bridges. My students will work in groups and the materials in this project will be used exclusively by my students. They will brainstorm and design their buildings on graph paper and will have a dry erase board available to them. Then they will build with the wooden dowels and hot glue. I am hoping that if my project is funded in full I will be able to supply my remote students at home with the materials they need to complete the project physically and not just digitally.
