A listening station would be beneficial for my students in many ways. It would help students decode unfamiliar words, teach critical listening skills, introduce and build vocabulary, as well as provide a read aloud model. All of these skills will strengthen my students' reading comprehension skills.
By allowing students to listen to multiple stories from different genres, they not only are exposed to different stories but different story techniques: pacing, volume, voices, etc. After listening to several stories, students will practice retelling the stories with a partner. Once they have become confident in their story retelling, they will begin adding different story telling techniques. When they are ready students will record their retelling using Flipgrid and share it with their classmates.
