All the art materials chosen for this project will be used to create a giant mural of wings that on each feather will have positive characteristics about our students that they will be creating themselves (i.e., strong, caring, loved, motivated, etc.). The students will create each feather on the wings by painting and decorating them with the feathers, pom poms, rhinestones, and tape. The stencils will be used to help paint the words on the feathers. Once the students finish creating the wings, they will be hung out in the hallway for all students to see and take a picture by to show they too embody all the characteristics written on the wings. These students come to us with low self-esteem and negative self-image because of the trauma they experienced. Hopefully, with this project, we can help build up the students' self-worth and confidence so they learn to love and care for themselves and others. We want these students to understand they are important and embody so many positive and powerful characteristics of young men and women who will one day become successful adults.
