My students love to read and explore new books. While we have a lot of wonderful non-fiction options available in our classroom library, we lack fiction books, especially books that foster in-depth discussions about characters, settings, and authors. To this end, all my book selections are character-based. They are beloved creations like Elephant and Piggie, Pete the Cat, Pigeon, Clifford the Big Red Dog, Pinkalicious, and Fly Guy. Receiving these books will help my students' grow their reading comprehension immeasurably.
Beyond that, these fiction books will give my students a chance to build a reading foundation that is based on love. Kindergarten is where reading begins- and that first introduction is crucial. Fiction books are so important because they are the foundation upon which a love of reading is built- and when a child loves to read, everything else falls into place. I have seen time and time again that when my students are given books that matter to them, their confidence soars. Their conversations deepen and their reading ability grows. Daily reading transforms from a dull, frustrating battle, into a dreamer's paradise- full of questions, conversation, and joy. Please donate to our classroom and help my students build their firm reading foundation!
