My students alternate between computer work, adult-led small group and independent work. The issue is, we have no way of concentrating on our computer work because of all the noises happening at once.
12 computers "singing" at the same time produces a less than pleasant sound. It becomes very hard for everyone to concentrate on what they are working on, and that hinders learning.
With headphones (that have microphones), my students can be engaged with what they are doing without the distractions of outside noises. Technology is becoming more an more important and it is important students have the opportunity to learn it.
