Every year students are assigned to read books that a group of adults sat around and deemed necessary, and they struggle. It is hard for them to connect to literature if it is not something relevant to their every day life. 2020 has been rocked with pandemic and the topic of race. More than ever students are using their voice on social media, and in their community to preach tolerance. These new books will allow students, in a academic setting, to have an honest conversation not only about the novel, but how the novel pertains to the world around them. Teaching tolerance build a stronger classroom, but stronger students who will go out in their community and make a difference.
