I want to give my students as many opportunities with books and quality literature that I can. Listening to stories is valuable and important for young children. Kindergarten students aren't all able to read for themselves, but benefit greatly from exposure to books and stories. There are many wonderful resources that read different kinds of stories to children; fiction, nonfiction, award winners and so much more!
Kindergarteners are excited to learn! With tablets, my students will be able to explore many wonderful books through apps that will read quality stories to them. I want my student to develop a love of reading and see that books can take us to new places and help us learn new things. I am wanting to start a listening center during my reading center block, so that students can listen to, as well as see the picture and words, of high quality literature. This will give them the opportunity to hear more stories in a day than, within our very busy day, I am able to read to them.
I want my students to enjoy stories, learn who their favorite authors are, and develop a life long love of reading!
