Imagine being in a classroom where teachers instruct and students get. Having a teacher like the one who taught Charlie Brown. Can you hear the monotone voice like I can? Now imagine walking into a classroom where there is a constant buzz between students. Some students are in one corner collaborating on a project about designing and building robots, and another where students are creating drafts of their dream living spaces and uploading them digitally so that their teachers and parents can see them in real time. I don't know about you, but I would rather be in the second class mentioned.
Technology, along with student voice and choice, are a way that I can make my classroom fun, engaging, and vibrant. We can't run away from it: technology is everywhere. Why not provide students with rich, meaningful experiences to collaborate with each other to apply the standards we are learning in class? Research has shown that if students are able to choose how they can demonstrate mastery of a topic, the more likely it is to stick long term.
With the use of these tablets, students will be able to collaborate on group projects for math, reading, writing, science and social studies. They will be meld multiple subjects together to create rich, innovative, and creative projects that showcase their learning. They will also be able to take snapshots of current work and upload them for parents and teachers to see in real time. These tablets will be a pathway to helping me create creative, innovative thinkers of tomorrow!
