What do you remember about your elementary school library? I have one clear and defined memory that has continued to stick with me for over 30 years. When I was in elementary school, we had an upstairs loft filled with colorful and comfy whistle seats. I can vividly remember climbing those steps each week for story time and hoping that I would get picked to sit in a whistle seat that day. While I can't remember exactly what lessons were taught in that space, I will never forget the way it felt to listen to a story from a whistle chair!
I want to create that same memorable seating space for my own students in the library. I want them to remember listening to stories in the library, and feeling that this was the "best day ever" because they got to sit in the best seats in the house. Furthermore, I would love to use this area as a cozy meeting space to gather with books clubs and talk about books. Finally, I teach in a school that is almost 30 years old, and the library is dated. I am sure that a bright and colorful seating space could refresh the library, and make it a space where kids are excited to come each week to enjoy their favorite books!
Please help me create this fabulous seating area in the library, and give my students a library to remember!
