Cooking is a necessary life skill. It is an important tool for learning math, reading and writing. My project will help to build a small kitchen in my classroom.
Cooking in the classroom addresses math, reading and writing standards. My students will be able to learn and practice math skills such as counting, understanding the concept of quantity, and comparing numbers and amounts. Students will use recipes to develop addition, subtraction, and problem-solving skills. They will use measuring tools to learn about length, weight and volume.
Students will learn to read recipes and write some of their own. Students will learn about nutrition, healthy eating habits, and kitchen safety. In addition to the academic benefits of cooking, students will develop social skills, communication, problem-solving, and the confidence of knowing they have the experience and skills to prepare food for themselves and others.
