The only thing in my cart is letters--lots and lots of letters! Being a new teacher, I am starting from scratch. First grade is a big one, and lots of things are expected to be taught to these little learners, including all the skills it takes to become great readers.
But how can they read if they don't know their letters? Something I have struggled with is having enough resources for each child, regardless their developmental level, to have that hands-on, interactive experience that is so crucial to their learning at this age. With this abundance of magnetic letters, I will have more than enough to use at my Teacher Table, where I will fine tune those skills that each child is working on, as well as in Word Work where activities will be differentiated based on where they are. Having enough resources opens up a world of possibilities to foster their love of learning and reading, as well as engagement and persistence!
