In an elementary school with over 900 students, teachers often make their own classroom space for small-group instruction. It's not uncommon to see teachers and students working together at tables or on the floor in the hallway. Specialists like myself who travel between classes must constantly go back and forth between rooms to grab things like books and writing utensils. The few minutes it takes to gather and organize materials for lessons is valuable time that could be spent working with students. In addition, the small handheld whiteboards and flip charts we use to share information are not ideal for students just learning to read and write in English.
Our students and specialists would benefit greatly from a large mobile whiteboard with storage that can be moved easily from one area of the school to another. When teachers are able to maximize the amount of time spent with students, we will see the positive results. For example, time that would be spent organizing and making multiple trips back and forth for teaching materials could be used for progress-monitoring and reading check-ins. With the addition of a large mobile whiteboard, it won't be necessary for specialists to tote around so many supplies. Please consider helping my wonderful students succeed!
