These books, library cards for the books, and post it notes for writing down questions and ideas about the book will make a tremendous difference in my classroom. The books that have been selected represent different cultures, genres of reading, and themes.
The most important part of teaching is to ensure that the material is something the students can relate to. Through these books, my students' knowledge will become as culturally diverse as their peers that I teach.
My students are also diverse in the way that they all learn. My guided reading groups range in levels from students below grade level to those well above. I believe it's important to have books to enrich all of their minds, regardless of their reading level or interest. I want them to begin reaching for books for pleasure rather than something they have to do in school.
