Teaching a departmentalized grade level, it's no so often I find something consistent all across. The one thing we did find is that our students are struggling to read. Not only are they struggling to read at grade level, they are specially struggling at finding having strong reading habits.
We try to cultivate their love for reading, but it isn't easy to provide books at the level and interest variety of 53 third graders. The simple scholastic paperback books in our classroom library are not catching their eye, but watching how they argue to take turns with my Captain Underpants set, I know we could really help them become active readers by just providing access to more modern, popular books, related to themes they actually like.
