Part of the elementary, standards-based general music curriculum is learning to play instruments alone and in a group while following a lead player or conductor. By learning to play instruments, students learn creative, mathematical, cultural, social-emotional, and linguistic skills in addition to instrumental music making skills. They also improve their dexterity and fine motor skills and are able to access all parts of the music curriculum.
