I love being able to read to my students. They love hearing the stories. Reading picture books are a way to help students gain abilities they need throughout their education. Although, I would love to read stories all day, that is not beneficial to the overall education of my students.
Research has proven that read-a-louds help students to build comprehension and expose them to more vocabulary.
The listening center will provide more opportunities for my students to hear read-a-louds. This give them stories to hear as a small group and not just as a whole group. I am able to ask questions about the story they heard as well. I believe in reading books to students no matter what age, but especially in kindergarten.
