Learning in whole group settings provides a unique opportunity for young learners to engage in collaborative learning with their peers. However, our current classroom lacks the proper tools to help support our struggling students. The purchase of an Alphabet Activity Carpet will provide a clearly defined spot for each student to sit during lessons and activities.
Giving each student a space of their own provides consistency, routine, and therefore predictability in their lives that many of our HeadStart students may lack at home. Many of our students struggle with remaining in their own space during whole group and would benefit from the visual cues and reminders provided by a carpet.
In addition to providing supportive seating arrangements for the students, the carpet will also provide a well-defined space for small group activities, space for students to work on the floor during learning centers, and an introduction to print and letter recognition that is integrated into their daily routine.
