Building a counseling library is essential in teaching students lessons about feelings, emotions, and connecting with others. As all of my resources have been for teens and older students, I now need to find resources to work with younger kids.
Social stories are one of the most effective ways to help young kids understand their feelings and successfully navigate the world around them. By using these requested books, I can help students learn new concepts, grow the social/emotional knowledge and continue to support literacy!
I will also be combining many of the books listed with a program called "Why Try Resilience." This is a character education program based in fostering motivation around school, positive behaviors choices and becoming positive members of society. Many of the books selected support the implementation of this program with younger students.
Many of these books and items are essential in helping young kids navigate new feelings and social stories help them find relevance. These books will help our students navigate their feelings, behaviors, and the world around them. These books will also help our students make personal connections to the counseling lessons and make better choices behaviorally.
