The spirographs will be given to our first grade families along with the high interest book. It is a makerspace item that pulls the family together to learn to use it and have fun while acquiring math skills through play. Here in the library we had a few spirographs that were part of makerspace station and it was an activity that all students students enjoyed. Many students wished they could take it home!
Most of our community is made up of agriculture hard working families who struggle with the language barrier within their home, the spirographs invite conversation between parent/student while engaging in fun math.
This particular item, invites everyone in the home to use. Many parents do not speak English and our students many times becomes the translators for them. Yet, students themselves are still English Language learners. It is my hope that it will be an activity to bring the family together in a fun way. I hope that parents share their memories in utilizing something similar when they were young.
Specially during this time of Covid-19 restrictions, Spirographs ca help de-stress at any age.
