We are learning face-to-face this year and more than ever students need any support that can help them learn their best. These seating options will be used throughout the day during independent work in all subjects. Currently, my students are able to choose a place to work throughout the room using clipboards to sit or lay on the floor or work at a table. I have noticed that when students have the opportunity to choose a location to work they are more focused, finish their work more quickly and with more accuracy, and are less distracted by their peers.
Flexible seating not only allows for movement as students work, it teaches students self-awareness and to consider where they will be most productive. The items I have selected will contribute to greater student choice by adding a choice of seating type as well as seating location. The understanding of what setting our bodies need to best focus is a skill that students will need for every area of life and sets students up for academic and non-academic success.
Seating choice positively impacts student focus and self-awareness. I hope that these items will help set my students up for a year of learning.
