These books will be an important addition to my classroom library, as my students are always eager to read a new graphic novel! I also added verse novels and a few other novels that I have personally read that have great themes that my students will enjoy. Receiving these books would mean that my students would have a huge selection of new literature to choose from as I continue to try to build their love for reading. I have already seen a tremendous amount of interest in pleasure reading compared to the beginning of the school year, and I want to keep that momentum going!
Our read aloud time is a favorite time of day for most students, and I want to help build on that and encourage them to love reading just as much on their own! Having a variety of options to choose from will enhance their interest in reading. I have taught my students to treat all books with respect, so I know that they will take such good care of any new additions to our classroom library. New books will help to promote genuine class discussions about a variety of topics that are very relevant to 5th graders!
