As much as I look out for the newest titles and engaging texts for all of my readers, it's always fun to get to pick out books of their own without any restriction! For many of my students, they never get the chance to shop for and have books of their own. The purpose of this ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½ project is inspired by knowing children become better readers by reading texts of high interest. In the midst of test preparation for the NYS ELA test, I would love to give my scholars a moment to tear open a big box of books, feeling like Christmas morning, passing out their selections to one another. It is my hope these books could be passed on to siblings and cousins to spark the chain reaction for the love of reading. I have witnessed countless instances over the last year and a half where children dive into books as an escape from what is happening outside of school. I truly believe a book is one of the greatest gifts.
