Students frequently do not continue to read over the summer, especially with students who do not have access to books in their homes. These books will give students the resources they need to continue their reading all through the summer, which will help them when they begin First Grade.
Kindergarten students work hard all year to develop their reading. Many of them have never attended preschool and they are starting with learning the letter names and sounds while others have had a little more experience.
The more a student reads during the summer, the easier it is for them when they return the next year. This is a crucial time for kids to practice their reading and it helps to boost their confidence at the beginning of the following year.
